DXOMARK announced the Apple iPhone 15 Pro image test score.

After testing, Apple iPhone 15 Pro with a total score of 154 points, and the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max tied for 2nd place in the DXOMARK global image ranking. Their scores are as follows:

The following pros and cons are listed in the test results:

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Pros:

  • HDR display for high brightness and contrast when viewing photos
  • Accurate exposure, even at night
  • Pleasing, natural colours
  • Excellent detail in bright conditions
  • Fast and accurate autofocus
  • Stable video shooting experience

Apple iPhone 15 Pro shortcomings:

  • Noise in dark light conditions
  • Slightly limited dynamic range in photos
  • Excessive blemishes, including light spots, ghosting, and jaggies
  • Lack of detail in telephoto shots

The current DXOMARK Overall Top 10 image scores are:

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Images Key Specs

Key features: 48 MP sensor, 2.44-micron quad-pixel, 24 mm equivalent f/1.78 aperture lens, dual-pixel autofocus, OIS

  • Ultra Wide: 12MP sensor, 13mm equivalent, f/2.2 aperture lens, dual-pixel autofocus
  • TV: 12MP sensor, 1.0m pixels, 77mm equivalent f/2.8 aperture lens
  • A17 Pro chipset

DXOMARK notes that thanks to the same image sensor and chip in both of the new phones’ main cameras, still image and video quality on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are very similar, with both phones showing very close to excellent performance in terms of face detail retention, skin tone rendering, face exposure, and intelligent HDR features.

Unlike the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro comes with a more conventional 3x telephoto lens. While it’s not as good as the iPhone 15 Pro Max at telephoto, the iPhone 15 Pro offers a fairly consistent level of detail across the zoom range and performs better at mid-range focal lengths, as the iPhone 15 Pro Max only switches to a telephoto lens at the 120mm equivalent focal length. As a result, the zoom sub-scores of the two phones are very close, with only a 3-molecule score difference.

Since the zoom subscore is lightly weighted in the overall DXOMARK image scoring system*, the slight differences in zoom (and the 1-point preview subscore) between the two models have a significant impact on their overall image quality.
