Apple will be officially releasing iOS 17 operating system at the WWDC23 conference on June 10 this year. The latest news is that iOS 17 will have a redesigned lock screen map navigation.

According to a rendering shared by tipster @analyst941, Apple will bring a new “Apple Maps Live Activity” to all iPhones with iOS 17. iOS 17’s Apple Maps Lock screen navigation will feature a half-screen display, with the date and time at the top of the screen and navigation maps at the bottom. The iOS 17 Apple Maps Lock screen navigation will be half-screen, with the date and time at the top of the screen and the navigation map on the bottom half of the screen. The number of unread notifications, flashlights, and shortcuts to the Camera app will also be displayed below it. Users can swipe on the lock screen to expand the notification center and see all notifications. Users can also shrink the map to the size of the music player widget on the lock screen and expand it again with a single click. This full-screen display mode is very different from Apple’s current implementation.

The map displayed on the lock screen interface is not interactive but updates in real-time based on the user’s current location and navigation direction. However, this new feature appears to be available only for Apple Maps and not for Google Maps and other third-party navigation apps.

Apple will officially release iOS 17 on June 10 at WWDC23, with one month to go, and more related news is expected to emerge before then.
