Apple AirPods Pro 2 wireless headphones open full feature threshold revealed

The AirPods Pro 2 will support lossless audio playback and will have a redesigned charging case for the headphones, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The latest revelation says that if users want to experience the full functionality of the AirPods Pro 2 headphones, they’ll need at least an iPhone 11 and newer device to do so. AirPods Pro 2 may only be compatible with iPhone 11 and newer devices, some iPads, and Mac devices with Apple’s Silicon chip,” reveals tipster ShrimpApplePro.

This tweet may confuse some potential buyers, but rest assured that Apple AirPods Pro 2 won’t be completely unusable without the aforementioned hardware, as there are likely millions of customers who purchased AirPods without other Apple products. This may be the configuration needed to turn on the full functionality of AirPods Pro 2.

Given that iPhone 11 is the first Apple product to feature the U1 chip — along with Apple Silicon Mac devices and more — the presence of that chip could enable some of the exclusive features of AirPods Pro 2. Those features include lossless audio for a new listening experience and advanced tracking in the event of misplacement or theft.

Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 wireless headphones are expected to bring improved active noise cancellation, longer battery life, and the Find My Find feature.
