The company has announced that it is working with JEDEC to develop the DDR5 MRDIMM memory standard.
At the Memcom 2023 event, AMD announced that it is currently working with JEDEC to develop DDR5 MRDIMM standard memory with a target transfer rate of 17,600 MT/s.
MRDIMMs, known as Multi-Ranked Buffered DIMMs, convert two DDR5 DIMMs into a single QDR to provide double the data transfer rate.
From the information revealed, DDR5 MRDIMM Gen1 will be upgraded to 8800 MT / s, DDR5 MRDIMM Gen2 to 12800 MT / s, and DDR5 MRDIMM Gen3 to 17600 MT / s after 2030.
At this stage, AMD plans to be the first to use DDR5 MRDIMM memory in data centres, but cannot confirm on which products it will start to do so, and it is expected to take longer as far as the downgrade to personal computers.
