Alpine Linux 3.17 Released: Uses OpenSSL 3.0, Better Rust Support

Alpine Linux 3.17 release is available today and the new version uses OpenSSL 3.0 as the default OpenSSL implementation. Another major change is the ability to use the Rust programming language in all architectures.

Alpine Linux 3.17 also introduces the GCC 12 compiler, the LLVM 15 compiler stack, Bash 5.2, GNOME 43, Go 1.19, KDE Plasma 5.26, Microsoft .NET 7.0, and numerous other package updates.

Alpine Linux is a distribution focused on lightweight, minimalist security. It uses OpenRC, BusyBox, musl libc and other components. With its lightweight nature, Alpine Linux is a mainstream choice for container and embedded Linux deployments.
