Sony and Honda established a joint venture called Sony Honda Mobility in September this year. The company has yet to reveal the brand names of the products, but they have revealed how the venture plans to compete with rivals in the EV market, with one idea being to build a car around the entertainment products Sony is already known for.

Izumi Kawanishi, head of Sony Honda Mobility, said in an interview with the Financial Times that they are planning to build an electric car around music, movies and PlayStation 5, which he said, “is our advantage against Tesla. “

Kawanishi, who previously headed Sony’s artificial intelligence robotics division, also said it was “technically feasible” to incorporate the PS5 platform into their car.

Sony Honda Mobility’s chairman Yasuhide Mizuno, formerly head of Honda Motor, said the company is building its production process around putting content first and will launch its first model in the North American market by 2025.

Kawanishi added, “In order to enjoy the space in the car, it has to be a space where you don’t have to drive. The solution for that is autonomous driving.” But that will take time to develop, the engineer added.
