According to foreign media website reports, British handheld game developer King and American technology company Pixis will fly at least 500 drones equipped with LED lights over New York City today to promote the game “Candy Saga”.

The flight show will take off from New Jersey and will stay in the air and hover for 10 minutes. New York City is known to have a complete ban on drone flights. For the event to be successful, Pixis must also obtain a waiver from the FAA and a special permit to operate from New Jersey.

The flight plan has already angered critics. New York State Senator Brad Holman said it was “outrageous” to have drones in the sky and that he was considering legislation to ban such advertising. The New York City Audubon Bird Conservancy is also concerned that the drones could interfere with the flight patterns of birds.

New York City residents say that like it or not, these technology-driven marketing gimmicks may soon be hard to escape.
