16-core Intel Sapphire Rapids processor overclocked to 7.2GHz

According to foreign technology media PC Gamer, Level1Techs, with the help of the ASRock performance team, successfully overclocked the 16-core Intel Sapphire Rapids processor to 7.2GHz at the Computex 2023 exhibition, and the power consumption reached 800W.

The team ran Intel’s latest 16-core Sapphire Rapids Xeon CPU on an ASRock W790 motherboard, initially clocked at 6.1GHz, and scored 46,000 points on Cinebench R23.

Note: All 16 cores on the Sapphire Rapids Xeon CPU are performance cores, based on the same Golden Cove specification as Intel’s 12th Generation Alder Lake desktop CPUs.

The team then overclocked it to 7.2GHz, but the system was too unstable to complete any benchmark runs at that frequency.
