Qualcomm announced some news about Snapdragon Satellite Communications during MWC2023. Xiaomi, OPPO, Honor, etc. became the first batch of manufacturers that planned to support it. Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Satellite for the first time in January this year.

At MWC 2023, Qualcomm announced a partnership with a number of Android OEMs, including Motorola, Nothing, Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO and Honor, aiming to apply Snapdragon Satellite to future smartphones.

“By incorporating Snapdragon Satellite into next-generation devices, our partners will be able to deliver satellite information delivery capabilities thanks to a mature, commercialized global low-Earth orbit constellation that can allow users around the world to communicate outdoors with emergency service providers, as well as family and friends.”

According to Qualcomm’s previous statement, Snapdragon Satellite is the world’s first satellite-based solution to provide two-way messaging for flagship smartphones. Snapdragon Satellite uses mobile messaging services around the world to provide global connectivity. This technology will be the first to be applied to terminals equipped with the second-generation Snapdragon 8 flagship mobile platform, but the company also said that the technology will be extended to other More advanced chips and a second-generation Snapdragon automotive 5G modem-RF system.

Powered by a Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF system and a fully operational Iridium satellite constellation, the Snapdragon Satellite will enable OEMs and other service providers to deliver true global coverage. Solution for smartphones utilizing Iridium Communications’ weather-resilient L-band spectrum for uplink and downlink connectivity.

As for when Android phones with the feature will be launched, Qualcomm did not disclose relevant information, but Qualcomm said earlier this year that some Android phones will have these functions by the second half of this year.
