Xiaomi 12S Ultra game test: Snapdragon 8 + Gen1 lower temperature than A15 Bionic

After the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was slowed down by Samsung OEMs, consumers have higher expectations for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset that switches to TSMC’s advanced process. Earlier, Golden Reviewer shared the latest Xiaomi 12S Ultra gaming test video on the oil pipe and tweeted a comparison chart of the competition, which shows that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1’s performance is indeed surprising enough.

For reference, the A15 Bionic is the fastest Apple smartphone SoC available today and is currently being used in models like the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

However, in gaming tests, Golden Reviewer found it to be slightly inferior to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered Xiaomi 12S Ultra.

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra has an average frame rate of 57.7 FPS for the original Gods game (highest image quality @ room temperature 25°C).

Not only is the performance significantly more efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powered Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra (42.1 FPS), but it also runs “cooler”.

Clearly, the performance and thermal control of Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with TSMC’s 4nm process is vastly improved in such a controlled environment.

In addition, Golden Reviewer evaluated the comparative performance of several Apple A15 Bionic devices.

The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is able to beat the 2022 iPhone SE and iPhone 13 Pro Max by a wide margin — with a higher average frame rate and lower operating temperatures.

But it’s a bit behind the larger and more power-hungry iPad mini 6 tablet (59.3 FPS average frame rate).

Finally, the A15 Bionic also outperforms Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in terms of power efficiency, meaning that the iPhone 13 Pro Max has better performance for the Original Gods handheld game.

Looking ahead, we can’t wait to see how Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 performs. It’s said to follow TSMC’s 4nm process, but one tipster says the next-generation SoC has even better energy efficiency.
