X (formerly known as Twitter), the social media platform helmed by Elon Musk, recently launched a new feature that allows users to choose to only allow authenticated users to reply to their posts.
A screenshot of the X mobile version shows that users can choose who can reply to posts. There are four options, including everyone, verified accounts, accounts you follow, and only mentioned accounts.
This change came 11 months after Elon Musk launched Twitter Blue, a paid certification service that charges $7.99 per month and provides users with a blue check label. The new feature also means it will be more difficult for users who don’t pay to refute posts containing misinformation. And researchers report that the amount of misinformation on the X platform continues to grow.
