Windows 11 has close to 29% usage among Steam players

Each month, Valve conducts a voluntary survey to gather information about the configuration of the PCs its customers use to access Steam. This data helps developers optimize their games to reach as many players as possible and make smart investments in different technologies. the Steam hardware and software survey is also a great source of information about the various Windows versions and their success with gamers.

Participation in the survey is optional, so the data does not represent 100% of Steam users. Also, the official Steam page compares the most recent data from October 2022, not November 2022, so there is a temporal distance between this article and the official report.

The survey results show that Windows 11 keeps stealing users from Windows 10. According to Valve, Windows 11 reached 28.42 percent in December 2022, an increase of 0.44 percentage points compared to November 2022.

Windows 10 64-bit, the most dominant OS breed on Steam, lost only 0.18 percentage points in December 2022, and the 8-year-old OS now has 65.42 percent market share. windows 7 64-bit experienced a similar decline. valve said the third most popular version of Windows on Steam is now only 1.66 % (-0.22%).
