Windows 11 build 23466 was released in the development channel in May this year, Microsoft announced a new application for backing up settings, files, applications and other content on the computer. This Windows backup app will be exclusive to the upcoming Windows 11 23H2 update, but it turns out that Microsoft wants a new backup experience for Windows 10 users as well.

This week Microsoft released the Windows 10 19045.3391 release preview, and after installing the update, users discovered an announced change: the new Windows Backup app. Users can run the program from the Start menu to back up folders, apps, credentials, and settings in OneDrive.

Other changes in Windows 10 build 19045.3391 include various low-level improvements. For example, the operating system can now better detect the user’s location to provide better weather, news, traffic information and other geographic-based data. This update also introduces new account-related notifications, daylight saving time changes for new countries, and various fixes.

Windows 10 is expected to reach its end of life in two years, and Microsoft has made it clear that there will be no new feature updates or major changes to the system. Still, the company continues to support Windows 10, making necessary security fixes and small changes to improve the experience, including moving from Windows 10 devices to devices running Windows 11, and the new Windows Backup app appears to be that upgrade.
