The foreign technology media Phoenix recently conducted an interesting test, Win11 or Ubuntu, who can better stimulate the performance of AMD graphics cards? So the media tested Win11 22H2 Build 22621 and the Ubuntu distribution with the Linux 6.2 kernel on the same platform.
The configuration of the test platform is:
Intel Core i9-13900K
2x 16GB DDR5-6000 CL36
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX
Solidigm P44 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD
Microsoft Windows 11 Pro 22621
Ubuntu 22.10 (Linux kernel version 6.2-rc1)
The games tested in this test include:
Hitman 3
Left 4 Dead 2
Portal 2
Quake II RTX
Strange Brigade
Flight simulation game “X-Plane 12”
testing software:
GravityMark 1.72
Unigine Heaven 4.0
Unigine Superposition 1.0
As the picture shows, there is a large performance gap between Ubuntu and Windows 11 on the newer Radeon RX 7900XTX graphics card. In this case, the Windows 11 PC was about 11.1% faster than the Linux one. Meanwhile, on the 6800 XT PC, Microsoft’s operating system was about 6.27 percent better.
