Recently, according to foreign media reports, the Volkswagen R series will become an independent high-performance car brand. At the Auto City theme park in Wolfsburg, Germany, Volkswagen even plans to open a special theme park this summer.

Volkswagen said that the R series will gradually develop in the next few years and launch enhanced new energy vehicles, starting with the Touareg R equipped with a V6-powered plug-in hybrid system.

Of course, this does not mean that fuel vehicles will no longer launch R models. This summer, the facelifted Golf R will continue to be launched, but it will bid farewell to manual transmission models.

In the future, the ninth-generation Golf will be a pure electric model. It will take time to verify whether a pure electric version of the Golf R will be launched, but we are likely to see the electric Golf GTI first.

In 2023, Volkswagen produced more than 35,000 R series vehicles, setting a production record for R series models. Since 2002, Volkswagen R series has sold more than 300,000 vehicles.
