Volkswagen ID.2 all ushered in the debut of the new car positioned pure electric A-class two compartments, will be based on the Volkswagen MEB Entry front-drive platform to build.

Positioned at the entry level with a range of 450km (WLTP) and due to launch in Europe in 2025, the car will be the first front-wheel drive model on Volkswagen’s MEB modular electric platform, with design elements dating back to the first Golf, Volkswagen said.

“As spacious as a Golf and as cheap as a Polo,” the car is slightly smaller in length and height than the current ID.3 and similar in size to the Volkswagen Golf mentioned above. But many of the ID.2’s designs differ from the eGolf, such as the ID.2’s more powerful powertrain.

The new car is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery, available in 38kWh and 56kWh versions, and supports 125kW fast charging, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% in about 20 minutes, which would make it one of the fastest charging cars in its class. The new car also features a front-mounted single motor (223bhp power), with zero-hundred acceleration of less than 7s and a top speed of 160km/h.

The Volkswagen ID.2all concept is 4050 x 1812 x 1530mm in length, width and height, with a wheelbase of 2600mm; the new car adopts the latest design style and will be equipped with the new driver assistance and IQ.

Thomas Schaefer, head of the Volkswagen brand, said in a statement, “We are gradually implementing a transition to bring electric vehicles to the masses.”

The automaker is also working on another electric car priced under 20,000 euros, but no further details were provided.

Overall, the new design looks more minimalist while retaining classic VW elements; it comes with a hidden rear door handle design, 20-inch wheels, and unique designs such as 3D LED through-tail lights, while its interior is also minimalist, with a mainstream center control layout, such as a 10.9-inch instrument cluster and 12.9-inch center screen, and the two screens also support multiple theme switching and dual-screen linkage.

In addition, it has a separate air conditioning control panel that allows key functions to be controlled via physical buttons such as the illuminated button.

As you can see from the picture, it has a skeleton steering wheel with 3 and 9 o’clock positions, including a pocket gear design as well. In addition, the new car is equipped with wireless front phone charging, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and massage.

It offers a 490-liter luggage compartment, which can be expanded to 1,330 liters when the rear seats are folded down. There is an additional storage box under the luggage compartment panel and a lockable 50-litre storage area under the rear seats. This area can be used to store charging equipment and breakdown kits, while also providing security for valuables.

In terms of intelligent driving, the production version of the new car will be equipped with a parking assistance system with memory function, the latest travel assistance system (Travel Assist), etc.

According to the report, the production version of the ID 2all will go into production in Spain in 2025, along with the closely related Cupra and Skoda models. It will be one of 10 electric cars VW plans to launch by 2026, along with the facelifted ID.3, the long-wheelbase VW ID Buzz, the ID.7 sedan and the compact SUV that will join the ID.2.
