The Volkswagen brand is preparing its German production network for the future. The Group Management Committee informed the Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board of the vehicle distribution plan until 2028.
It is learned from officials that in addition to the ID.3, which will be mass-produced in 2023, the Wolfsburg factory will also produce a second electric model. Starting in 2026, high-volume A-segment all-electric SUVs are scheduled to roll off the production line, along with the best-selling Golf and a new-generation Tiguan. From 2025, the successor to the Tiguan Allspace will also be produced at the main plant.
During the plant allocation planning process, Volkswagen decided not to build an additional plant in Wolfsburg-Valmenau. Instead, new electric models based on the SSP architecture (Scalable System Platform) to be launched at the end of the decade will be integrated into the existing modern structure of the main plant, and high-volume Golf models will also be electrified on the basis of SSP.
As it stands, the Trinity vehicle project originally planned for Wolfsburg will be moved to the Zwickau plant. In addition to producing the gas-powered Arteon and T-Roc convertibles, the Osnabrück plant plans to continue its partnership with Porsche.
