Volkswagen CFO (chief financial officer) Arno Antlitz said today that its software division Cariad could bring its next-generation 2.0 platform to market in 2027 or 2028, according to the Financial Times.

Volkswagen’s 2.0 platform, which will enable so-called L4 autonomous driving, was initially scheduled for launch in 2026, but development has been delayed.

Arno Antlitz said the company first wants to focus on the current version of the platform, which will be implemented in high-end electric models such as the Porsche e-Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron starting next year. He added: “There will be great cars on that platform …… which gives us a little flexibility to push 2.0 back to 2027, 2028.”

Volkswagen has appointed Bentley production chief Peter Bosch to helm the Cariad software division. in response, Antlitz said, “It will be a powerful team focused on the transformation of Cariad with the goal of relying more on external partners and less internal work to reduce capital consumption. “

Volkswagen’s ultimate goal is to provide a unified software and electronics architecture for all Volkswagen Group vehicles. It will use Qualcomm solutions in Europe and North America and chips developed by Horizon Robotics in the Chinese market.
