VLC Media Player 3.0.19 Released: Fixes Security Bugs, Improves AV1 Support

VideoLAN recently updated cross-platform multimedia player VLC Media Player, the latest version of 3.0.19. The official website has not yet released the update, but interested users can directly visit the server to download it.

VLC Media Player 3.0.19 is the first update of the media player in almost a year, fixing many bugs reported in previous versions, optimizing the background stability, and introducing many new features.

In terms of security, VLC Media Player 3.0.19 fixes two vulnerabilities with tracking numbers CVE-2022-37434 and CVE-2023-5217.

Note: CVE-2022-37434 is a heap-based buffer over-read or overflow vulnerability in zlib. CVE-2023-5217 is a heap buffer overflow vulnerability in vpx with vp8 encoding.

The developers of VLC Media Player have also addressed a “potential security issue” with the uninstaller DLL in this release.

In terms of features, the Windows version of VLC Media Player 3.0.19 improves support for AV1 HDR and improves support for AV1 GBRP, super-resolution streams and monochrome streams.

Other improvements include support for RIFF INFO tags in Wav files, improved SMB compatibility for Win11 devices, MMDevice audio output threading, and more.
