At the Vivo 2022 Technology Day event, Vivo officially announced that it will support 5G networks in India for some of its phones by the end of October 2022.

Indian telecom operator Reliance Jio is preparing to launch its 5G SA in India and will ask OEMs to release OTA updates for 5G phones that don’t yet support Jio’s 5G network, and Vivo is one of them.

In addition, Vivo announced a partnership with Reliance Jio’s gaming platform JioGamesCloud, which is based on Jio True 5G technology. Vivo used its flagship smartphone Vivo X70 Pro + to demo the cloud game on Jio’s 5G network.

Reliance Jio has already launched its 5G service in four cities in India and plans to expand to more by the end of the year, which is currently available by invitation only. It’s worth noting that Reliance Jio is the only operator with access to low-band 5G. The company said that it will be the only brand to offer SA (standalone group) 5G services in India, while other brands will offer 5G networks via NSA technology.

Samsung India previously revealed that it has been working with Indian network operators (Airtel, Jio and Vi) to test and will release the required OTA updates by mid-November 2022.

According to ET News, a source has revealed that Apple will add 5G support for Indian carriers via a software update for the iPhone as early as December.
