“Counter-Strike 2 (CS2)” has been officially launched on September 28. According to previous reports, Valve will stop supporting “Counter-Strike: Global” on January 1, 2024. Offensive (CS: GO)” support, and after installing “CS2”, this game will cover the original “CS: GO” by default.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Valve answered the question of why the game was named after “CS2” instead of “CS:GO2”.

"CS2" has experienced the largest technological leap in the history of the "CS" series. Every system has undergone fundamental changes. Every map, every weapon, every animation, and every sound is newly produced based on the new engine. The game ended up being so different from CS:GO that we no longer considered them the same game.

In addition, Valve claimed that “from the beginning, the development team knew that “CS2” would eventually replace “CS:GO”, and they wanted to ensure that players could retain as many CS:GO skills and items as possible.” Therefore, in the early stages of game development, , the development team began to bring all weapons, stickers, music and other content in “CS: GO” to “CS2”.
