0

This week, the USB promotion group announced that it will officially launch the USB4 v2.0 standard, which is a major upgrade to the USB4.

Previously, USB4 was considered the “little brother” of Thunderbolt 4, this v2.0 standard directly turned around, doubling the transmission rate to 80Gbps, in line with the previous consistent tradition.

Officials also revealed that the corresponding USB Type-C interface standard and USB PD power protocol will also be updated simultaneously, the specific content will be announced before the USB DevDays in November this year.

However, from the information released so far, to achieve 80Gbps transmission seems to require active cables, passive cables or only up to 40Gbps.

In addition, the supporting protocol updates also cover beyond 20Gbps speed USB 3.2 transport layer definition, the inclusion of the latest DP and PCIe standards content and compatibility with USB4 v1.0, USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and Thunderbolt 3.
