At the public-policy day of the Washington Auto Show this Thursday, several Biden administration officials said they would accelerate the scale of charging piles in the United States.
The U.S. voted for nearly $5 billion in infrastructure bills in 2021 to expand the size of the charging pool. At the event, Michael Berube, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Energy for Sustainable Transportation, said: “We’re going to create a complete electricity network that covers the entire country, from the East Coast to the West Coast, every interstate, every major highway”.
Berube also said he would build an additional 500,000 charging posts on top of the 130,000 already built to meet the travel needs of US electric car owners.
Berube also responded to complaints from many US electric car owners that the chargers were uneven. We are very focused on this issue,” he said. We will be introducing standards that will require 97% of chargers to be up to standard”.
