U.S. Startup Enters Commuter Electric Vehicle Segment with Anthem Electric Motorcycle

While some electric motorcycle makers are focusing on high performance and long distances, others are targeting the commuter market. California startup Ryvid has introduced an electric motorcycle called the Anthem, which also has enough power to get around on the highway.

Built on a stainless steel chassis, the Anthem electric motorcycle weighs just 12 pounds (5.4 kg) and has a low center of gravity to ensure a nimble, manageable and ultra-responsive ride. It weighs 240 pounds (109 kg) including the battery or 175 pounds (79.4 kg) excluding the battery, and the seat height can be adjusted from 30 inches to 34 inches (76.2-86.3 cm) making it more suitable for shorter riders.

The Anthem electric motorcycle features a fully enclosed drive assembly at the rear with an integrated 10 hp (7.5 kW), 72-volt air-cooled motor, and a variable-ratio poly chain and HTD carbon belt final drive with a 4.7 gear ratio for high-speed cruising. This translates into 53 lb ft (72 Nm) of peak torque and a top speed of over 75 mph (120 km/h).

The Anthem electric motorcycle’s 4.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack can be removed for charging indoors and even hot-swapped for a new battery that sits in the office for longer commutes. It is estimated to take six hours to recharge on 110-volt household power and half that time on 220-volt power. Anthem can travel more than 75 miles (120 km) per charge in eco mode or more than 50 miles (80 km) in sport mode.

Elsewhere, there’s a 4.9-inch daylight-visible TFT display for trip information and ride indicators, and it features 17-inch wheels wrapped in 120/70 tires up front and 160/60 tires in the rear, with stopping power provided by dual-piston hydraulic disc brakes with 310mm rotors up front and 240mm in the rear, adjustable inverted suspension forks and a rear shock absorbers help smooth out uneven terrain, and the electric motorcycle can support both rider and passenger with a maximum weight of 400 pounds (181.5 kg).
