Twitch CEO Emmett Shear Announces Resignation

Twitch, the live-streaming gaming platform owned by Amazon.com, will see an important personnel change, with the company’s CEO Emmett Shear stepping down after more than 16 years at Twitch and as one of the platform’s founders.

Emmett Shear co-founded the live-streaming platform Justin.tv, which was renamed Twitch in 2011 and quickly gained traction in the gaming community. Three years later, Twitch was acquired by Amazon for just under $1 billion.

In a blog post, Emmett Shear said Dan Clancy, president of Twitch since 2019, will assume the role of CEO immediately, adding that he will continue to serve as an adviser.

Twitch has come under fire in recent months for reducing the percentage streamers earn from subscriptions, and the company’s global head of creative, Constance Knight, left the company last year.

In September of last year, the company tweaked its policy and announced it would allow streamers to keep a 70 percent share of the first $100,000 of their earnings, which would then be calculated as a 50% share of the split standard.
