According to the Taiwan media “Economic Daily News” reported that TSMC advanced process leader and continued to expand production, to provide customers with a full range of services, its mature process expansion upgrade special process also spared no effort.

According to the report, the industry estimates that TSMC’s mature process-related investment this year is more than $4 billion, and next year will not be less than $4 billion, which translates into a cumulative investment of nearly $10 billion in mature processes over the past two years.

TSMC’s advanced process progress has attracted much attention from the market, but in fact the company’s expansion in the mature process has never stopped, more customization and upgrading. TSMC’s chairman, D.Y. Liu, has publicly stated that there is an oversupply of mature processes, especially 28nm effective capacity, but TSMC continues to expand its mature processes, mainly in response to the needs of its customers’ strategic development.

In recent years, TSMC’s mature process focus on upgrading special process applications. Data statistics, four years ago TSMC mature process of special process applications accounted for about 45%, last year in the mature process under the total production capacity, the special process accounted for about 60%, this year, with customer demand growth, is expected to continue to surge.

The report points out that TSMC’s special process is mainly from the mature process capacity transition to mass production and a wide range of applications, related processes across 12nm, 16nm FFC RF, 22nm embedded RRAM technology to support IoT MCU applications, 28nm wireless charging and automotive radar, and even high-end panel driver IC applications, 40nm BCD (Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS) The enhanced version is used in new applications of wireless charging chips, etc.

In addition, TSMC defines advanced and mature processes with 7nm as the watershed. The industry believes that this reflects TSMC’s continued advancement in related areas of production, with 3nm to be mass produced in the second half of the year, 7nm is expected to be gradually incorporated into the mature process area.
