According to a report by EE Time, TSMC is “doing its best” to increase its 3nm process capacity to meet Apple’s large orders, Analysts believe TSMC is currently having problems with its mass production process and yields, causing delays in deliveries.

EE Times spoke with Arete Research analyst Brett Simpson, who believes TSMC’s A17 Bionic chips (for the iPhone 15 Pro) and M3 series Apple Silicon chips are still in the development stage, with yields at just 55%.

The translated part of Simpson’s interview is as follows: “TSMC is on track to improve 3nm yields by an estimated 5 percentage points per quarter”.

TSMC CEO Chia-Chia Wei said that while the company has achieved “high volume production and good yields”, customer demand is outstripping its ability to supply. In the second half of this year, TSMC will increase production of A17 and M3 chips for Apple, as well as produce chips for Intel, AMD and Nvidia.
