TSMC in the “International Ozone Layer Protection Day” on the eve of the announcement to accelerate the RE100 sustainable process, “global operations 100% use of renewable energy” target set for 2040.

At the same time, TSMC will increase the proportion of renewable energy used in all of its production and operation sites from 40% to 60% by 2030. TSMC said that in the future, through the “sustainability blueprint” of zero growth and gradual reduction of carbon emissions from 2025, and returning carbon emissions to the 2020 level by 2030, TSMC will review the achievement of the goal year by year, “realizing a zero-carbon sustainable future through practical actions! We are committed to realizing a zero-carbon sustainable future through practical actions.”

TSMC announced its participation in the RE100 initiative in July 2020, making it the first semiconductor manufacturer in the world to join the initiative, when TSMC pledged to achieve 100% use of renewable energy by 2050. This time, TSMC has pushed its goal of 100% renewable energy use forward by 10 years.

RE100 is a global initiative launched by the international non-profit organization The Climate Group, in partnership with CDP, to encourage companies to switch to renewable energy. TSMC is one of the RE100 members with the largest demand for electricity, and its sustainability goal for 2030 is to have 25% of its manufacturing plants powered by renewable energy and 100% of its other plants powered by renewable energy.
