Trendforce: Nvidia surpassed Qualcomm and successfully ranked among global IC design companies

Trendforce collectively states consulting the latest research report shows that thanks to the AI boom, nvidia in the second quarter replaced Qualcomm formally as the global IC design leader and the rest of the manufacturer’s rankings did not fluctuate.

Trendforce analysts pointed out that due to the AI boom has deeply driven the related supply chain stocking, resulting in the second quarter of the world’s top ten IC design companies’ revenue reaching $38.1 billion (currently about RMB 278.13 billion), a 12.5% increase from the previous year.

TrendForce expects that in the third quarter, the world’s top ten IC design revenue will continue to have double-digit quarterly growth, and the output value is expected to hit a record high.

On a standalone basis, NVIDIA’s data center revenue increased 105% quarter-over-quarter, benefiting from the global demand for CSPs (Cloud Service Providers), generative AI for Internet companies and enterprises, and large-scale language modelling applications.

In addition, the separate business of gaming and professional visualization also grew, with overall Q2 revenue reaching $11.33 billion (currently about RMB 82.709 billion), up 68.3% quarter-over-quarter. Overall, the company surpassed Qualcomm and Broadcom to become the world’s leading IC design company.

Qualcomm’s Q2 revenue fell 9.7% YoY to $7.17 billion (RMB 52.341 billion) due to sluggish demand for Android smartphones and early shipments of Apple modems.

Although Broadcom’s network communications business grew about 9% sequentially thanks to high-end switch and router sales catalyzed by generative AI, server storage, broadband and wireless revenue faced a decline, so overall Q2 revenue was roughly the same as the previous quarter at about $6.9 billion.

AMD’s overall Q2 revenue was roughly flat with the previous quarter at around $5.36 billion due to a decline in game graphics card sales and embedded business in the second quarter.

MediaTek part of the components such as TV chips, WiFi chips and other inventory levels gradually turned to security, coupled with the TV rush order, cell phones, intelligent terminal platforms and power management ICs and other platforms related to shipments and inventory replenishment, second-quarter revenue growth of 1.5% to 3.2 billion U.S. dollars.

Sixth-ranked MMC’s second-quarter revenue decreased by 1.4% from a year earlier, about 1.33 billion U.S. dollars; Wing revenue rose 24.7% to 987 million U.S. dollars; ReneSola increased 32.6% from a year earlier to 856 million U.S. dollars; Weir Semiconductor and MPS revenue were 530 million U.S. dollars, 440 million U.S. dollars, a decrease from the previous year.
