TrendForce reports that in the first quarter of 2023, notebook panel shipments are expected to be 38.7 million, down 10.4% from the previous year and 45.6% from the previous year, due to fewer days of work and brands reducing orders to de-stocking.

The report points out that in the second quarter, as the brand’s inventory has been restored to a manageable level, coupled with an increase in the number of working days, the estimated second quarter notebook panel shipments of about 46.3 million pieces, an increase of 19.6% year-on-year.

TrendForce said, from the second quarter of last year, brands began to reduce panel purchases, and in the second half of last year, continued to adjust the purchase volume, the overall panel purchase volume is lower than the entire machine shipments, showing that the panel inventory continues to be depleted while observing the trend of the last three quarters, the difference between the brand’s machine shipments and panel purchases shrinks quarter by quarter.

TrendForce consulting report learned that, on the whole, in the first half of 2023, despite the notebook machine sales still weak but benefiting from the brand-in-hand notebook panel inventory to restore a healthy level, notebook panel shipments are expected to rebound. The second half of the year is expected to slow down the U.S. interest rate hikes, European inflation cooling, China’s domestic demand to warm up after the recovery of social and economic activity, notebook panel demand has the opportunity to resume to the traditional peak season preparation rhythm.
