Toyota to restart production at Japan plant on January 8th

Toyota Motor Corporation said that it will restart its factory in Japan on January 8th. However, in view of the strong earthquakes at the beginning of the New Year, the company’s production plans will decide separately from January 15.

Toyota said in a press release on Sunday that the aftershocks caused by a magnitude 7.6 earthquake continued and many suppliers and their affiliated enterprises were located in the affected area. Therefore, the company will use inventory parts located outside the affected area.

Toyota President Koji Sato said on Friday that the company is trying to understand the supply chain, because suppliers Aisin Sang Machine and Sumitomo Electric have been damaged by the earthquake.

It is noticed that Ken Saito, the Minister of Economic and Industry in Japan, said that as of Friday, about 80% of companies in the affected area have resumed production or are about to restore production.

At the beginning of the new year, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Japan could reach the Peninsula, which had killed more than 100 people and more than 200 people disappeared.
