To catch up with Samsung, Vivo and Tecno will launch scroll phones next year

According to Korean media The Elec, both Tecno and Vivo are actively preparing scroll phones and plan to put them into commercial production before the end of next year.

Reports say that it is basically impossible for Chinese phone manufacturers to catch up with Samsung in the foldable phone market, so manufacturers are focusing on a new device form – roll-up phones.

Before LG announced its official withdrawal from the phone market, it showed off a smartphone called LG Rollable; Tecno showed off a concept phone, Tecno Phantom Ultimate, in September last year. By pressing the button on the top, the 6.55-inch screen can be adjusted to 1.2- Expands to 7.11 inches in 1.3 seconds.

Transsion said at the time that the scroll screen was made of low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO), with a 7.11-inch screen resolution of 2296×1596 and a pixel density of 388PPI (pixels per inch).

The screen of this scroll phone comes from Huaxing Optoelectronics. It is reported that Transsion plans to commercialize it before the end of 2024, and the screen can withstand external pressure after being extended.

It is also learned from the report that Vivo is also developing a scroll phone, which may be released at the same time. Reports say the panel may come from CSOT or Samsung Display.

Compared with Samsung Display, CSOT is considered to be less affected by the output of innovative form factor products, so it may be more deeply involved in the development and supply of Vivo scroll phone panels.
