Tesla has confirmed that it is developing a new platform, but there is no definitive information yet. insideevs reports that Tesla will announce the latest information about its next-generation model platform at an investor day event on March 1.

The media speculated that the platform will produce smaller electric vehicles than the Model 3 and Model Y and that the cost of the vehicles will be cut in half. Previously there were rumors that this new model smaller than the Model 3 and Model Y may be named “Model Q”, priced at about $25,000 (currently about RMB 169,000), the main competitors in the same class cover the BYD Dolphin, Xiaopeng P5 and other models.

In this regard, the person in charge of Tesla said to Red Star News, “This is untrue news.”

It is worth mentioning that at the 2022 third-quarter earnings meeting, Elon Musk revealed that “the next-generation model will be smaller than the Model 3 currently on sale and will cost half as much as the existing platform.”

Martin Viecha, Tesla’s head of investor relations, explained that “if a company wants to produce more, it needs a product portfolio that reaches a wider audience, and Tesla needs to offer a cheaper car product before the company-run self-driving cab service comes online.

As Tesla’s one-piece die-cast technology, CTC technology and 4680 batteries mature, and as the new factory produces more electric cars, production costs will be below $36,000 per vehicle, which will help improve the company’s profitability,” Veach said.”

Elon Musk confirmed back in September 2020 that a smaller model than the Model 3 will be launched in the future. In addition, the production of electric cars based on the new platform will be higher than all other models combined.
