The Galaxy Note series is out of the picture, but the impact will continue

2021 was supposed to be the 10th birthday of the Galaxy Note series, but unfortunately, that day never came. The S Pen has been an iconic element of the Galaxy Note series since its introduction as a tablet phone in 2011. But unfortunately, with the Galaxy S22 Ultra offering S Pen support, it seems the era of the beloved productivity-centric phone has finally come to an end.

The Galaxy Note series is more like Samsung’s rebellious response to the iPhone and the late Steve Jobs himself. It had everything the iPhone didn’t have, and everything Steve Jobs rejected: a huge screen (at least by the standards of the time) and, most importantly, a stylus that other smartphones tried to get rid of.

History will prove that Samsung was right, with many of today’s models featuring the so-called tablet phone size of yesteryear. While the Galaxy Note’s S-Pen remains somewhat unique, the desire for a mobile stylus has never gone away, even among some of Apple’s own fans.

Fortunately, the features that make up the DNA that defines the Galaxy Note aren’t going away …… even if you won’t see a new Galaxy Note phone for years to come.

Leading tipster @i Ice Universe broke the news that TM Roh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, said the Galaxy Note will come out every year as the Galaxy S Ultra. The immediate implication here is that there will be no more Galaxy Note models in the future. It also implies that the Galaxy S Ultra model will retain the same form factor and features as the Galaxy Note, just like the Galaxy S22 Ultra released in 2022.

In terms of functionality, this basically means that Galaxy S Ultra models will continue to carry the S-Pen inside them, a design change that started with this year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, which had no room for a stylus inside compared to the previous Galaxy S21 Ultra generation.

The same oversized phone distinguishes itself from the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ with its square design, similar to the latest Galaxy Note models. Whether this design will continue to evolve remains unknown, but the exact look of the Galaxy Note has never been its defining feature.
