Beijing, July 14 news, Tesla artificial intelligence (AI) business leader Andrej Karpathy (Andrej Karpathy) announced on Wednesday that he will no longer work for Tesla. Previously, he led the development of Tesla’s automated assisted driving system (Autopilot).

Karpas announced the departure on Twitter. “It’s been a privilege to help Tesla move toward achieving its goals over the past five years, and it was a difficult decision to leave. Along the way, the Autopilot system has evolved from its initial lane-keeping capabilities to city streets, and I look forward to seeing the extraordinarily strong Autopilot team continue that momentum.” He said.

At Tesla, Karpas managed a team of senior machine learning scientists and engineers and just recently took a few months off. His departure comes at a time when Autopilot-related accidents are at a high rate. According to federal data released last month, Tesla vehicles have accounted for nearly 70 percent of reported crashes involving the advanced assisted driving system since June 2021. Officials warned that the data is incomplete and is not meant to show which automaker’s system may be the safest.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk expressed gratitude for Karpas’ contributions, saying he was honored to work with him.
