Tesla to recall nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the US for faulty window reversal system

0

Tesla announced that it will recall nearly 1.1 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a malfunction in its automatic window reversal system, which may not respond properly after detecting an obstacle. The recall includes some Model 3s produced from 2017 to 2022, Model Ys produced from 2020 to 2021, and Model S and Model Xs produced from 2021 to 2022.

Tesla told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that it plans to update the automatic window reversal system on the models in question. The recall does not involve any related warranty claims, field reports, accidents or injuries, the company said.

NHTSA said that without a proper window safety system, closing the windows could increase the risk of injury to drivers and passengers, and said the vehicles do not meet federal safety standards for power windows.

Tesla said that beginning Sept. 13, vehicles in production and prior to delivery will undergo a software upgrade to bring their power window systems into compliance with the requirements.
