An upcoming software update from Tesla should bring a considerable upgrade to the audio system of its cars, according to BGR. According to its sources, Tesla has been working with major record labels for months to bring Dolby Atmos to Tesla cars. Once that software update rolls out, Dolby Atmos will be supported in the more than 1 million Tesla vehicles currently on the road, as well as in all new production vehicles.
Dolby Atmos, a 3D surround sound technology launched by Dolby, was released on April 24, 2012. It breaks through the concept of 5.1 channel and 7.1 channel in the traditional sense, and can combine with the content of the film to present dynamic sound effects; create more realistic sound effects from far and near; and cooperate with the roof to add speakers to realize the sound field surround, show more sound details and enhance the audience’s viewing experience.
Early last year, Lucid Motors was the first automaker to introduce Dolby Atmos to its Lucid Air sedan. This fall, Volvo and Mercedes-Benz revealed that they will also introduce Dolby Atmos to their cars. Volvo’s EX90 SUV will support Dolby Atmos, while Mercedes-Benz is offering Dolby Atmos support for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and its EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV electric vehicles.
