Tesla announced that the battery production of its Gigafactory Texas is enough to support the production of 1,000 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks per week.
Previously, Tesla has been tight-lipped about the details of its plans to increase battery capacity at the factory. Initially, Gigafactory Texas produced the 4680 batteries for the Model Y, but as Cybertruck mass production began, Tesla switched production lines to produce a new version of the batteries for the Cybertruck.
It is noted that in last quarter’s earnings call, Tesla Senior Vice President of Energy Engineering Drew Baglino said that battery production capacity is not the bottleneck in accelerating Cybertruck mass production, and Tesla even has several weeks of battery inventory. .
It’s unclear exactly how much Tesla Cybertruck will be produced, but reports of seeing hundreds of Cybertrucks waiting to be delivered outside the Austin factory suggest production is ramping up.
The Cybertruck battery pack has a capacity of about 123 kWh, which means Tesla produced more than 123 MWh of cells last week, which works out to more than 6 GWh for the entire year.
Previous reports pointed out that Tesla has encountered some problems in increasing the production capacity of 4680 batteries, and has not fully reached the battery performance indicators announced at the beginning of the release. There were also recent reports that Tesla hired a semiconductor manufacturing expert to assist with battery production at Gigafactory Texas.
