Tesla suspends Fully Automated Driving FSD beta push to new owners

Tesla is currently suspending the push of the Fully Automated Driving Beta (FSD Beta) to new owners until a software remedy for the recall is released, according to U.S. automotive news site Teslarati.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released recall documents disclosing that Tesla is voluntarily recalling 362,758 vehicles with FSD Beta installed or pending installation. NHTSA believes that FSD Beta may allow vehicles to behave unsafely at intersections, posing a crash risk.

Tesla noted, “We have suspended the rollout of FSD Beta to all those who have opted in but have not yet received a software version that includes FSD Beta until a software version containing the remedy is available.”

Similar to most of Tesla’s previous “recalls,” the FSD Beta patch is expected to be addressed through a free OTA update. Tesla also emphasized that the FSD Beta recall only affects vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.

Tesla noted that the FSD beta was always designed to alert drivers to pay close attention to road conditions. Users of the system, then, should be aware that they are fully responsible for the system while it is operating. With this recall in mind, drivers who are inattentive while operating FSD Beta could end up violating traffic rules, increasing their chances of being involved in a collision.

Tesla emphasizes that FSD Beta users are not required to take any action and are not required to schedule a service appointment. Tesla also assures FSD Beta owners that the software remedy for the recall will not remove the FSD Beta system from their vehicles.
