Tesla reports 242 problems per 100 vehicles

Market research firm J.D. Power surveyed 30,062 three-year-old U.S. car owners and recently released its 2023 annual U.S. Reliability Car Report. The report includes Tesla for the first time and Lexus at the top of the list.

The report covers 32 vehicle brands, with Tesla coming in at number 28. The report has 242 problems per 100 vehicles, based on feedback from Tesla owners. Lexus was the best performer, with 133 problems per 100 vehicles, while the premium Hyundai Genesis brand had 144 problems.

The report indicated that the average was 186 problems, and Tesla had more than the average number of problems. Some Tesla owners are not satisfied with the quality of their cars, such as the Model S being replaced with a 300 V8.

  • Lexus – 133 problems reported per 100 cars
  • Genesis – 144 problems reported per 100 cars
  • Kia – 152 problems reported per 100 cars
  • Buick – 159 problems reported per 100 cars
  • Chevrolet – 162 issues reported per 100 cars
  • Mitsubishi – 167 issues reported per 100 vehicles
  • Toyota – 168 issues per 100 cars reported
  • Hyundai – 170 problems reported per 100 cars
  • MINI – 170 problems reported per 100 cars
  • Nissan – 170 issues per 100 cars reported
