Tesla Recalls Nearly 16,000 Model S / X in U.S. Due to Risk of Seatbelt Failure

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an announcement on July 19 that Tesla will recall 15,869 vehicles locally.

The recall covers the 2021-2023 Model S and Model X. The announcement shows that the front seat belts of these models may not be properly connected to the pre-alarm anchors, which may cause the risk of the seat belts falling off.

According to the announcement, Tesla’s local after-sales service department will check the front seat belts, connect the seat belts to the pre-tension anchors, and replace the seat belt assembly free of charge if necessary. In addition, the owner notification letter is expected to be sent on September 12, 2023, and the owner can contact the local Tesla customer service.

It was previously reported that Tesla announced its second-quarter earnings today, with second-quarter revenue of $24.9 billion and market expectations of $24.51 billion.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said production would drop slightly in the third quarter due to factory upgrades. He also said that if the macro environment cannot remain stable, car prices will have to be lowered. Affected by this news, Tesla’s U.S. stock fell as much as 4.3% after hours.

Elon Musk said that sacrificing vehicle profit margins in exchange for more production is reasonable. He believes that the short-term difference in gross margins and profitability is really small compared to the long-term outlook. All these numbers seem silly.

He also mentioned that Tesla allows owners to transfer FSD “one-time”; it is open to the licensing issue of FSD software. “We are very open to licensing our FSD software and hardware to other automotive companies” “in preliminary discussions with an OEM about using Tesla FSD”.
