Tesla no longer supports automatic window closing in response to new U.S. traffic regulations

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the recent revision of the new rules, no longer allows the automatic closing of windows through the interior of the car, applications, or other features. Tesla owners have shared corresponding screenshots on social media and forums, showing that the automatic window-closing feature is no longer available.

Twitter users and Tesla owners @Tommyf902 contacted Tesla Service to get more information about the issue. Tesla Service responded by saying, “Due to recent federal regulations, certain automatic window closing features are not available, please wait for subsequent changes.”

Tesla’s official response stated that the following Tesla Service window features will no longer be available.

  • Use the physical switch to roll the window up/down outside of pressing the vehicle’s brake pedal
  • Raising and lowering the windows via the Tesla mobile app
  • Automatically close the windows after the vehicle is locked
  • Automatically close the windows when the vehicle is in a wash.

Although not specifically mentioned by Tesla Service, this may also limit the ability to raise or lower windows during Tesla Light Show.
