The Tesla Model Y has made the top 10 best-selling cars in the U.S. for 2022, according to data firm Motor Intelligence.
In 2022, the Model Y will sell 252,000 units in the U.S., up 32.4 percent from 2021, placing it sixth in the U.S. auto market. The Model Y is followed by the GMC Sierra (No. 7), Honda CR-V (No. 8), Toyota Tacoma (No. 9) and Jeep Grand Cherokee (No. 10).
Tesla is reportedly launching the Model Y in March 2019, with deliveries in North America starting in the first quarter of 2020.
At its annual shareholder meeting in October 2021, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the Model Y should become the best-selling car, a milestone expected to be achieved in 2023 thanks to its four factories: the Fremont plant, the Shanghai Super Factory, the Texas Super Factory and the Berlin Super Factory.
In early August 2022, Musk said that the Model Y was on track to be the best-selling model in 2022 and would remain the best-selling model in 2023.
While 2022 is challenging for Tesla, the company’s sales in the U.K. have also been strong over the last year, with its Model 3 and Model Y repeatedly being the best-selling cars in different months.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that in December 2022, the Model Y was the best-selling car in the UK with 10,664 units sold, while the Model 3 was the second best-selling car in the country.
For the full year 2022, 35,551 Model Y units were sold in the UK, making it the third best-selling car in the country, behind only the Nissan Qashqai (42,704 units sold) and the Vauxhall Corsa (35,910 units sold).
