Tesla launched 2024.2.11 software update, brings new automatic parking function

The long-awaited new automatic parking function of Tesla owners has finally arrived. Tesla added an upgraded version of the automatic parking function (Autopark) in the 2024.2.11 software update.

As early as earlier this month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicted that this feature would be available soon. According to Not a Tesla App, the 2024.2.11 software update adds the following features:

The vehicle can park itself, including parallel parking.

When the vehicle is traveling at low speed, available parking spaces are displayed on the screen. The system recommends spaces with a circular P sign, but drivers can also choose other highlighted spaces.

To activate self-parking, simply park the vehicle, press the start button and release the steering wheel. Please refer to the user manual for details.

It should be noted that, like all automatic assisted driving functions, the driver still needs to maintain attention at all times when using automatic parking and be prepared to take over the vehicle at any time, including canceling the automatic parking function.

It is noticed that after Tesla switched to a pure visual recognition system (Tesla Vision) and phased out ultrasonic sensors (Ultra Sonic Sensors, USS) a few years ago, the functions of some vehicles were affected. Due to the lack of USS sensors, these vehicles cannot accurately recognize objects and distances, and therefore lose autonomous parking and Summon functions.

As an alternative, Tesla added a “high-accuracy parking assist” feature that relies on visual recognition in a holiday update launched last Christmas, which is available for vehicles equipped with USS sensors and Tesla’s visual recognition system.

According to Elon Musk, Tesla also plans to launch more “cool features” and will upgrade the summon function next.
