According to Jiemian News, Xpeng Motors responded to rumors this morning that “the G3 model will be discontinued during the year” and stated that the discontinuation of the G3 and G3i models during the year is a decision based on the company’s long-term planning. , is to allow Xpeng Motors to focus more on promoting future development strategies.

For the G3/G3i series models that have already started delivery, Xpeng Motors stated that it will fulfill its commitment to the rights and interests of car owners and provide 10-year maintenance and spare parts supply capabilities for sold vehicles. At the same time, car owners will still receive continuous OTA software upgrade services in the future.

This morning, a person familiar with the matter revealed that Xpeng Motors plans to stop updating the G3 product line and may design a new product to replace the car. As for why the G3 model “exited the stage”, people familiar with the matter gave the following statement:

The product line is old and does not comply with the strategy of switching all models to Fuyao 2.0 architecture

The main sales force of the brand has been taken by newer models such as G6 and G9. The sales performance of G3 has been poor for a long time.

Sales performance has led to higher inventory levels, lower gross profit margins, and G3's contribution to sales is almost "negligible"

Xpeng G3 is the “originator” of Xpeng Motors and its first mass-produced model. The car made its world premiere at CES in the United States in 2018 and was launched for delivery in December of the same year. Later, the G3i model was launched in July 2021 to improve intelligence and other aspects. The entire series is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820A chip as standard.

According to previous reports, Xpeng G3i received the Xmart OS 2.4.0 version upgrade on October 8 this year, which mainly includes parking assistance image upgrades, remote image adjustment, switching of battery life display modes, and optimization of some third-party apps.

Public information shows that the entire Xpeng G3i series adopts a front-wheel drive layout. The maximum output power of the permanent magnet synchronous motor is 145kW (approximately 194 horsepower), the maximum torque is 300N·m, and the NEDC cruising range is 460~520km.

Recently, the media learned from people familiar with the matter that Xpeng Motors G3 may face a suspension of production and sales. Although this model is still available for reservation and purchase, this product The car line will no longer launch facelifted models, and stores in major business districts will no longer display the G3i. The model will gradually be discontinued, inventory will be cleared, and it will be replaced by new products.

People familiar with the matter said that the G3i product line has become outdated and is not in line with Xpeng Motors’ strategy of switching all series to the Fuyao 2.0 architecture. However, there is no news of a replacement model for the G3i. Sources said that with the increase in G6 sales, the necessity of the lower-priced G3i has decreased, which has increased inventory levels and lowered gross profit margins. Its contribution to sales is almost negligible. It is normal to abandon this product line. At the same time, he also believes that Xiaopeng P5 should also be abandoned.

A store salesperson said that the G3i’s platform is old and can no longer keep up with the intelligence level of Xpeng Motors. The store has removed the G3i booth for some time, mainly to make room for the G9.

Autohome App sales data shows that the sales volume of Xpeng G3i has remained at around 300 units for many months. In the past six months, the sales volume has not exceeded 2,000 units, which is not even as good as the sales volume of Xpeng P5 in one month. Judging from the current sales data, discontinuing production is also an inevitable choice.
