The Volkswagen brand is preparing its German production network for the future. The Group Management Committee informed the Volkswagen Group Supervisory Board of the vehicle distribution plan until 2028.

It is learned from officials that in addition to the ID.3, which will be mass-produced in 2023, the Wolfsburg factory will also produce a second electric model. Starting in 2026, high-volume A-segment all-electric SUVs are scheduled to roll off the production line, along with the best-selling Golf and a new-generation Tiguan. From 2025, the successor to the Tiguan Allspace will also be produced at the main plant.

During the plant allocation planning process, Volkswagen decided not to build an additional plant in Wolfsburg-Valmenau. Instead, new electric models based on the SSP architecture (Scalable System Platform) to be launched at the end of the decade will be integrated into the existing modern structure of the main plant, and high-volume Golf models will also be electrified on the basis of SSP.

As it stands, the Trinity vehicle project originally planned for Wolfsburg will be moved to the Zwickau plant. In addition to producing the gas-powered Arteon and T-Roc convertibles, the Osnabrück plant plans to continue its partnership with Porsche.

Volkswagen recently released the 2024 Tiguan SUV. The new car will be launched in the UK in early 2024. The new Tiguan has undergone significant changes both in appearance and interior, adopting an upgraded version of the MEB-Evo platform, as well as more advanced digital and connected features, including the latest version of the MIB infotainment platform and new OTA update capabilities.

Measuring 4539mm in length, 1842mm in height and 1639mm in height respectively (excluding roof racks), the new Tiguan is 30mm longer and 4mm taller than its predecessor, with the same width. The wheelbase remains the same as the previous generation at 2680mm.

In terms of interior, the new Tiguan has a cleaner, more upscale, more technological, and more spacious cockpit. The dashboard, illuminated trim elements and air vents have been redesigned, offering a 10.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.9-inch or 15.0-inch (depending on configuration) central touchscreen infotainment display. The infotainment display also integrates a backlit slide controller, similar to the latest Passat and ID 7 . There’s also a new MIB4 digital menu structure, with touchscreen climate controls integrated underneath.

The new Tiguan steering wheel abandons the difficult-to-operate capacitive touch buttons on the old Tiguan and uses more traditional physical buttons. The center console has also been changed, with the addition of a rotary knob for adjusting driving modes, volume and what VW calls “ambience,” which is basically preset settings for ambient lighting and other features like Spotify and Apple Music playlists.

All new Tiguans come standard with a dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG), with the shift lever moved to the steering column. VW claims 8mm more headroom in the front and 10mm in the rear. Boot space in non-plug-in hybrid models has also increased by 37 liters to 652 litres. Options include a new head-up display that projects information onto the windshield rather than onto a plastic panel like the old Tiguan, as well as wireless phone charging.

In terms of power, the new Tiguan offers a variety of turbocharged four-cylinder engines to choose from. These include a new mild-hybrid 1.5-litre petrol engine found in the two front-drive eTSI models, delivering 129bhp or 148bhp respectively. There’s also an upgraded 2.0-litre petrol engine available in the two all-wheel drive TSI 4Motion models, delivering 201bhp and 261bhp respectively. The 2.0-liter diesel engine remains, but with a tweaked exhaust system, continuing to deliver 148 hp in front-wheel-drive 2.0 TDI models and 190 hp in all-wheel-drive 2.0 TDI 4Motion models.

The petrol-electric powertrain used in the plug-in hybrid Tiguan has also been significantly improved, now based on the 1.5-litre engine used in the new eTSI model, rather than the old turbocharged 1.4-litre unit, and paired with a more powerful electric motor Match. However, the two front-drive eHybrid models retain the same power as the old model, at 201 hp and 268 hp respectively, and they are equipped with a new 19.7kWh battery that is said to provide up to 62 miles , the pure electric cruising range, and the DC charging capability of up to 50kW means that the charging speed will be faster. Petrol and diesel versions of the Tiguan use a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG), while the plug-in hybrid uses a six-speed DSG.

Volkswagen has also redesigned the Tiguan’s MacPherson strut front and four-link rear suspension, with new dampers and revised anti-roll bars. Combined with the new independent rear suspension, it is said to improve body stiffness and stability.

Buyers can also choose new two-valve continuously variable dampers as part of an improved Dynamic Chassis Control Pro system, which controls the performance of the electronic differential lock, and the new car also offers Golf GTI-derived Vehicle Dynamics Manager, allowing driving The operator chooses from 15 settings to change the characteristics of the suspension.

Since the Tiguan was launched in 2007, the car has been Volkswagen’s best-selling model worldwide. 7.5 million have been produced to date, including 1.2 million in the past two years alone. The new Tiguan is expected to be available in four configurations when it goes on sale, with prices ranging from about £30,000 for the base version to about £45,000 for the top-of-the-line R-Line version. VW also said it is developing a more powerful Tiguan R that will be powered by the latest 315-horsepower version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine found in the Golf R. The seven-seat Tiguan Allspace has been discontinued and will be replaced in European markets by a new SUV called the Tayron in 2025.

In fact, Volkswagen was often affected by short-term chips last year, involving models such as Jetta, Taos and Tiguan, but it has gradually improved since July last year.

Volkswagen said at the time that although the industry generally expects that the supply of automotive chips will be greatly improved in the second half of the year, it cannot rule out the possibility of further adjustments to production in the future.

Since most of the automotive chips do not require advanced manufacturing processes, most of the current fab production capacity is occupied by advanced manufacturing processes. Therefore, since the beginning of 2022, there has been a global shortage of automotive chips, which has affected Volkswagen, GM, Ford, and Toyota. , Stellantis, Hyundai and many other automakers.

As for the domestic production capacity, SAIC Volkswagen previously stated that it will optimize the production scheduling plan according to market demand, and “prioritize the production capacity of products with large market demand”.
