Volkswagen today issued a press release announcing upgrades to the ID.4 and ID.5.

The new models have more power and higher efficiency, are equipped with a new generation of infotainment systems and software, and start at 40,335 euros (currently about RMB 311,000).

Using the same electric platform as the ID.7, the two new models are 60 kW more powerful than the previous versions, with the Volkswagen ID.4’s combined WLTP range increasing to 550 kilometers, and the Volkswagen ID.5 increasing to 556 kilometers.

Inside, both new models feature a new infotainment system, with an increase in screen size to 12.9 inches, a new menu structure, and enhancements to the digital cockpit (digital instruments) and optional AR HD head-up display.

Elsewhere, VW has added light effects to the air conditioning and volume sliders, and brought users a multi-function steering wheel based on new operating logic. VW has also brought in a new IDA voice assistant, a Harman Kardon sound system, 480W of music output power and 10 speakers (including a center speaker and subwoofer).

Additionally, Volkswagen has removed and separated the driving mode selector from the digital cockpit’s housing and replaced it with a joystick design, just like the ID.7.

The two new models are equipped with a 77 kWh battery and a 210 kW (286 PS) rear-mounted electric motor, which corresponds to a 60 kW increase in power over the predecessor; torque has also been raised from 310 Nm to 545 Nm, an increase of around 75%.

The all-wheel drive version of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has a system power of up to 210 kW (286 PS), which is 15 kW (21 PS) more than its predecessor.

The all-wheel drive versions of the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX have also increased their power by 30 kW (41 PS) to 250 kW (340 PS), and accelerate to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, although the top speed is still limited to 180 km/h.

To match the GTX model, the top speed of the Pro version is now also increased to 180 km/h (previously 160 km/h); the ID.4 base model remains unchanged; and the ID.4 Pure tops out at 160 km/h with a 125 kW motor (170 PS).

Both new models are equipped with new 77 kWh batteries and have increased range levels, e.g. up to 550 kilometers (WLTP) in the new ID.4 Pro, which is 17 kilometers more than its predecessor, and 556 kilometers in the new ID.5 Pro, which is 11 kilometers more than its predecessor.

The all-wheel drive versions also have enhanced DC charging performance, with an increase in power from 135 kW to 175 kW (still 135 kW in the rear-wheel drive version), which can be replenished to 178 kilometers in approximately 10 minutes.

In addition, the base version of the ID.4 Pure is equipped with a 52 kWh battery and supports a charging power of 115 kW instead of 110 kW.

According to foreign media reports, when Herbert Diess was CEO, Volkswagen Group was vigorously transitioning to electric vehicles, and his successor, Oliver Bloom, has continued to push their electric vehicle strategy and is accelerating the transition to electric vehicles after taking office.

Like Hyundai and other big fuel car manufacturers, Volkswagen has launched several electric cars, and their ID series of electric cars, they have launched several, and also continues to deliver to customers.

The latest reports from foreign media show that the weekly production of electric cars at Volkswagen’s plant in Zwickau, Germany has reached a new high this month, with 7,100 units produced in the five days from November 7-11.

According to reports from foreign media, Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant currently produces six electric cars for three Volkswagen brands at the same time: Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback, and the Cupra Born of the new Cupra brand, all of which are electric cars.

The production of 7100 electric cars in 5 days means that the annual production capacity of Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant for electric cars is already considerable, and the foreign media mentioned in the report that according to the rhythm of producing 7100 cars that week, Volkswagen’s plant can produce 369,200 electric cars per year.

Volkswagen Zwickau plant 5 days 7100 electric cars, is also the highest weekly production of this plant so far, Volkswagen side of executive said for the team is quite a remarkable achievement, before the transformation, such high production is not even technically possible.

Volkswagen announced today that it has officially sold 500,000 ID. series of electric vehicles worldwide since the first ID.3 models were delivered to customers in October 2020, and the company plans to accelerate its electrification program.

With the departure of its former CEO Herbert Diess, many are pessimistic about Volkswagen’s electrified future. However, Volkswagen continues to press ahead with its electrification plans, and now that the company has officially sold 500,000 ID. series electric vehicles worldwide, the company plans to accelerate its electrification plan.

Volkswagen’s electric car orders remain high at 135,000, up 65% from 2021, and the company is optimistic it will be able to deliver the vehicles quickly despite tight supplies. In addition, Volkswagen’s electric vehicle lineup now covers three different models: the Volkswagen ID.3 compact car, the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 mid-size SUVs, and the Volkswagen ID.6 full-size SUV.

Volkswagen now plans to end production of combustion-engined cars in Europe by 2033 and plans to introduce ten new electric models globally by 2026, including facelifts for existing models.

Regarding plans for specific markets, Volkswagen said it aims to have 70 percent of vehicles sold in Europe be fully electric by 2030, and 50 percent in the U.S. and China.

However, it wasn’t all good news for the German auto giant. Tight supply remains an ongoing problem, so much so that sales board member Imelda LabbĂ© said the situation could affect production timetables, “We are doing our best to deliver orders for approximately 135,000 ID. to customers as quickly as possible. However, We had to repeatedly adjust production due to continued tightness in parts supply.”

Another major challenge for Volkswagen is the electric vehicle market in North America. Although Volkswagen obviously cannot compete with companies such as Tesla for control of the electric vehicle market, they are also lagging behind in terms of electric vehicle market share. than other traditional brands such as Ford and Hyundai/Kia.
