Volkswagen today issued a press release announcing upgrades to the ID.4 and ID.5.
The new models have more power and higher efficiency, are equipped with a new generation of infotainment systems and software, and start at 40,335 euros (currently about RMB 311,000).
Using the same electric platform as the ID.7, the two new models are 60 kW more powerful than the previous versions, with the Volkswagen ID.4’s combined WLTP range increasing to 550 kilometers, and the Volkswagen ID.5 increasing to 556 kilometers.
Inside, both new models feature a new infotainment system, with an increase in screen size to 12.9 inches, a new menu structure, and enhancements to the digital cockpit (digital instruments) and optional AR HD head-up display.
Elsewhere, VW has added light effects to the air conditioning and volume sliders, and brought users a multi-function steering wheel based on new operating logic. VW has also brought in a new IDA voice assistant, a Harman Kardon sound system, 480W of music output power and 10 speakers (including a center speaker and subwoofer).
Additionally, Volkswagen has removed and separated the driving mode selector from the digital cockpit’s housing and replaced it with a joystick design, just like the ID.7.
The two new models are equipped with a 77 kWh battery and a 210 kW (286 PS) rear-mounted electric motor, which corresponds to a 60 kW increase in power over the predecessor; torque has also been raised from 310 Nm to 545 Nm, an increase of around 75%.
The all-wheel drive version of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION has a system power of up to 210 kW (286 PS), which is 15 kW (21 PS) more than its predecessor.
The all-wheel drive versions of the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX have also increased their power by 30 kW (41 PS) to 250 kW (340 PS), and accelerate to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds, although the top speed is still limited to 180 km/h.
To match the GTX model, the top speed of the Pro version is now also increased to 180 km/h (previously 160 km/h); the ID.4 base model remains unchanged; and the ID.4 Pure tops out at 160 km/h with a 125 kW motor (170 PS).
Both new models are equipped with new 77 kWh batteries and have increased range levels, e.g. up to 550 kilometers (WLTP) in the new ID.4 Pro, which is 17 kilometers more than its predecessor, and 556 kilometers in the new ID.5 Pro, which is 11 kilometers more than its predecessor.
The all-wheel drive versions also have enhanced DC charging performance, with an increase in power from 135 kW to 175 kW (still 135 kW in the rear-wheel drive version), which can be replenished to 178 kilometers in approximately 10 minutes.
In addition, the base version of the ID.4 Pure is equipped with a 52 kWh battery and supports a charging power of 115 kW instead of 110 kW.
