Delivery giant Uber Eats and Serve Robotics recently officially announced that they will launch a robot food delivery service in major cities in the United States starting in 2026.

The company’s first robot, Serve Robotics, will be deployed in the U.S. by 2026.

Serve Robotics says the four-wheeled robot uses AI technology for path planning, has a range of about 40 kilometers and can carry goods weighing up to 23 kg. In addition, the company’s robots can deliver dozens of orders a day.

The company’s main goal is to provide a more efficient way to deliver food to customers.

Uber says that consumers who place orders through Uber Eats will be offered the option of having their food delivered by a robot. The robot will deliver the food to the designated location and then the customer will need to enter a code to pick up the food, thus ensuring that the food is delivered safely to the customer.

The company’s main goal is to provide a more efficient way to deliver food to customers.

The company’s goal is to become a zero-carbon delivery platform by 2040, and robotic delivery is an important part of that.

Serve Robotics, which was formerly the delivery robot program of food delivery service Postmates, received a $10 million investment from Nvidia in March 2022 (currently about RMB 71 million.) Serve has been in the robot delivery business since last year. Serve has been growing at a rate of more than 30 percent per month since it launched last year, and now has more than 200 restaurants in the Los Angeles area as its customers.

Uber said its partnership with Serve Robotics will expand to more cities in 2026, including San Jose, California, Dallas, Texas and Vancouver, Canada, with plans to deploy up to 2,000 delivery robots.

YouTubers are now announcing a major update to their app. Simply put, YouTube-oriented driver apps will soon integrate with Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to connect to their cars with their iPhones.

Currently, Uber drivers need the iPhone or Android app to view orders and choose to take them, as well as to view maps, see dynamic pricing zones and more, but apparently, drivers are less comfortable performing this while driving, which is why Uber announced the integration of Apple CarPlay into its driver app.

In an email sent to Uber partners, the company confirmed that drivers will be able to use its features directly from CarPlay.

To do so, drivers will need to open the Uber Driver app on their iPhone, connect their iPhone to the car via wired or wireless means, and CarPlay will then display content from the Uber app on the car’s dashboard.

Based on the official list provided by Apple to date, all major automakers worldwide now have or will soon have models that support CarPlay in the car, with at least 600+ models supporting Apple CarPlay.

However, CarPlay in-car support is available as a standard or optional feature in many new 2016 and subsequent model years. Some manufacturers offer software updates for older models. Some models may support CarPlay in-car or car key functionality only in certain configurations, and some models are only available in select countries.

The current CarPlay compatible iPhone models include the following, while the car key support function may be limited to certain models and configurations, these models may only be available in some areas.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said Uber ended 2022 with its “strongest quarter ever,” capping off its “strongest year. Uber said it expects total orders to grow 20 to 24 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2023 on a constant currency basis.

Uber’s CEO said the impact of the outbreak on the company’s mobile business is “now fully behind us” and that active drivers hit an all-time high in the quarter. He noted that the company also reached a new milestone, making 2 billion trips in a single quarter for the first time, averaging about 1 million trips per hour.

Uber reported earnings per share of 29 cents, compared to analysts’ estimates of an 18-cent loss; Uber’s revenue was $8.6 billion, compared to analysts’ estimates of $8.49 billion. Revenue for the quarter was up 49 percent year-over-year. The 29 cents per share included a significant investment gain, and Uber noted net income of $595 million for the quarter, of which $756 million was a net gain due to unrealized gains on equity investments.

Uber reported adjusted EBITDA (earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization) of $665 million, above analysts’ expectations of $620 million. Total orders for the quarter were $30.7 billion, up 19 percent year-over-year.

On a constant currency basis, Uber said it expects total order volume to grow 20 to 24 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2023, with adjusted EBITDA of $660 million to $700 million.

Here’s how Uber’s largest business units performed during the quarter.

Mobile (total orders): $14.9 billion actual vs. analysts’ expectations of $14.8 billion

Delivery (total orders): $14.3 billion actual, compared to analyst estimates of $14.3 billion.

Uber relied heavily on its Eats delivery business for growth during the epidemic, but its mobile division outpaced Eats delivery revenue in the first, second and third quarters of 2022 as riders began to travel more. This trend continued in the fourth quarter as the company’s mobile division reported revenue of $4.1 billion compared to $2.9 billion reported for deliveries.

Uber’s freight business reported sales of $1.5 billion for the quarter.

Uber’s monthly active platform consumers climbed to 131 million in the fourth quarter, up 11 percent year-over-year. During this period, the platform completed 2.1 billion trips, up 19 percent year-over-year.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that by 2030, Uber and Lyft will be required to be zero-emissions, with an expected impact of 100,000 cabs.

Adams said New York City is committed to making the city healthier and more sustainable, and one way to do that is to electrify the big companies’ vehicles. The plan is designed to help alleviate some of the costs for New York City’s taxi drivers and “will not impose new fees on individual drivers.

Both Uber and Lyft are willing to accept this policy, as both companies are committed to the long-term goal of moving to electrification by the end of 2030.

In addition, Adams said New York City residents should try driving electric cars, and they plan to support more electric cars with plans to build more electric vehicle charging infrastructure in all five boroughs.

“We are excited to partner with New York City on our journey,” said Paul Augustine, Lyft’s director of sustainability, “New York’s commitment will accelerate an equitable citywide transition to electric vehicles, and we are eager to work with TLC to develop an ambitious plan to achieve clean mileage standards.”

“We applaud the mayor’s ambition to reduce emissions, which is an important goal we share,” said Josh Gold, senior director of policy at Uber, in a statement, “Uber has been making real progress to become the first zero-emissions mobility platform in North America, and there is still much work to be done. “

The leasing agreement will be launched in London this month and will include models from Tesla and Polestar. The program will also expand to other European capitals, including Paris and Amsterdam, by 2023.

“Expanding our partnership with Hertz to Europe will significantly contribute to our zero-emissions transition, helping drivers reduce operating costs and clean up urban mobility,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber.

Uber-which has been offering car rentals to drivers who don’t own a car since 2016 and has partnered with Hertz on such programs, but the company didn’t partner to rent specific vehicles to drivers until recently.

Uber declined to provide any details about weekly rentals, but the figure is likely similar to U.S. rentals, which are around $330 a week for a Tesla or Polestar, which also includes maintenance and insurance costs.

Uber says the electric car partnership with Hertz has made it very popular in the United States. About 38,000 EV drivers completed 20 million trips in the U.S., Canada and Europe in the third quarter of 2022 a fourfold increase over the same period last year, the company said.

By 2022, active electric vehicle drivers at Uber worldwide saved more than 12.5 million gallons of gasoline, the company said.

SoftBank Group disclosed today that it has sold its remaining stake in online car giant Uber. The move comes as SoftBank looks to raise cash amid mounting losses at its investment arm. Earlier today, SoftBank reported a net loss of 3.16 trillion yen ($23.4 billion) for the first quarter of fiscal 2022, the second consecutive quarter with the largest quarterly loss on record, ending June 30.

The earnings report showed that SoftBank’s two Vision Funds had investment losses totaling 2.92 trillion yen. Among them, the Vision Fund (Phase I) lost 2.33 trillion yen, compared with a record loss of 2.2 trillion yen already in the previous quarter.

SoftBank then said it sold its entire stake in Uber between April and July of this year at an average price of $41.47 per share. SoftBank also said that the shares cost an average of $34.50 per share, so the sale was profitable.

But SoftBank did not disclose how much profit the sale of Uber shares brought, nor did it say exactly how many shares were sold. But SoftBank said the shares of companies sold between April and July – including Uber, online real estate company Opendoor, healthcare company Guardant and Shell Housing – generated a total gain of $5.6 billion.

SoftBank invested in Uber in 2018 and again in 2019, becoming its largest shareholder at one point. There were reports that SoftBank sold about 1/3 of its stake in Uber last year. Today, the remaining about 2/3 has been sold off as well.

Shares of some of SoftBank’s publicly traded companies, such as South Korean e-commerce company Coupang, Uber and U.S. food delivery operator DoorDash, have plunged amid a global stock market sell-off, but some of those stocks have rallied in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the share prices of some privately held portfolio companies, too, fell in the first fiscal quarter. The earnings report showed that the cumulative investment return of Vision Fund 2, which has a higher percentage of unlisted portfolio companies than the first fund, fell into negative territory by the end of June.

How much are you willing to pay for an Uber trip? These days, it’s not cheap to get a ride with the popular ride-hailing app in the U.S. – and judging by current prices, at least if people live in a major city, it’s probably cheaper to walk or drive themselves to their next destination. Uber rides are more expensive than ever, which can be attributed in part to the massive increase in fuel prices happening in early 2022. Another factor here is the driver shortage.

According to a CNBC report, online car giants like Uber and Lyft experienced a severe driver shortage in the summer of 2021, and things still haven’t returned to normal. To combat this, some of these companies are offering bonus incentives to drivers and raising base rates to lure them back to the apps. Fewer drivers combined with higher fuel prices have led to increased costs for Uber trips, which can cost more than $30 per trip for relatively short trips in the largest U.S. cities.

According to a study by NetCredit, Uber users in New York City pay an average of $34.74 for a 6.2-mile ride. While this figure makes the city the most expensive city for Uber in the U.S., it is not the only city with an average price of more than $30 per trip. Nashville is a close second at $34.63 for the same travel distance, followed by Denver at $33.91 and Seattle at $32.63. By comparison, despite commuters’ and other riders’ thoughts to the contrary, a ride in New York City’s famous yellow cab is 35 to 83 percent cheaper, at least according to a CBS News report.

What makes New York City’s online cabs so expensive? The platform charges a congestion surcharge and implemented an increased minimum wage for drivers in March 2022 of $1.61 per mile and $0.529 per minute, according to New York City’s official website. To retain drivers, Uber implemented a temporary fuel surcharge starting in March to give drivers an additional fee. In addition, the company is giving incentives to drivers who want to switch to electric vehicles. By doing so, they can earn a bonus of $1 or more per trip, up to $4,000 per year.

As part of a settlement with U.S. prosecutors to avoid criminal charges, Uber Technologies Ltd. said this Friday it is willing to take responsibility for covering up a data breach that occurred in 2016 and compromised the information of more than 57 million riders and drivers. Prosecutors say a former Uber security chief paid hackers $100,000 worth of bitcoin to cover up the incident.

In a non-prosecution agreement, Uber admitted that its staff failed to report the November 2016 hack to the FTC, even as the agency investigated the ride-hailing company’s data security.

U.S. Attorney Stephanie Hinds in San Francisco said Uber waited about a year to report the violations after appointing new executive leadership, which “has started from the top on ethics and compliance.” established a strong tone.”

Hinds said the decision not to file criminal charges against Uber reflects swift investigations and disclosures by new management, as well as a 2018 agreement between Uber and the FTC to maintain the comprehensive privacy program for 20 years. The San Francisco-based company is also cooperating with the prosecution of former security chief Joseph Sullivan, alleging that he concealed the hack.

Uber did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Uber is settling a U.S. Justice Department lawsuit that accused the company of overcharging passengers with disabilities, Engadget reports.

The report says Uber has agreed to pay at least $2.2 million (about RMB 14.828 million) to compensate riders who needed more time to access their vehicles because of their disabilities but were still charged for waiting time.

The $2.2 million settlement includes nearly $1.74 million for more than 1,000 riders who complained about the fees and $500,000 for “other aggrieved individuals.” Uber will also provide credits to more than 65,000 people who have received waivers on wait time fees, and all riders with disabilities will receive double the wait time.

IT Home has learned that Uber implemented a wait time fee in 2016 that charges riders extra if drivers wait more than two minutes after arriving at a pickup location. This rule makes people with disabilities pay more than other passengers, which the U.S. Department of Justice claims violates Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits transportation companies from discriminating against people with disabilities.

In a statement to Engadget, Uber said it was “pleased” with the agreement and insisted it “has been working hard” to support users and encourage customers to sign up for disabilities and get a break.
