YouTubers are now announcing a major update to their app. Simply put, YouTube-oriented driver apps will soon integrate with Apple CarPlay, allowing drivers to connect to their cars with their iPhones.
Currently, Uber drivers need the iPhone or Android app to view orders and choose to take them, as well as to view maps, see dynamic pricing zones and more, but apparently, drivers are less comfortable performing this while driving, which is why Uber announced the integration of Apple CarPlay into its driver app.
In an email sent to Uber partners, the company confirmed that drivers will be able to use its features directly from CarPlay.
To do so, drivers will need to open the Uber Driver app on their iPhone, connect their iPhone to the car via wired or wireless means, and CarPlay will then display content from the Uber app on the car’s dashboard.
Based on the official list provided by Apple to date, all major automakers worldwide now have or will soon have models that support CarPlay in the car, with at least 600+ models supporting Apple CarPlay.
However, CarPlay in-car support is available as a standard or optional feature in many new 2016 and subsequent model years. Some manufacturers offer software updates for older models. Some models may support CarPlay in-car or car key functionality only in certain configurations, and some models are only available in select countries.
The current CarPlay compatible iPhone models include the following, while the car key support function may be limited to certain models and configurations, these models may only be available in some areas.
